The UTS Blackfriars Precinct Research Hub competition-winning scheme was designed as a purpose-built innovation centre, future-proofed for continual evolution and change. The seven-storey building complements the Blackfriars Children Centre and evolved into the UTS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

The design incorporates water collection from the roof and ground plane that is used for an integrated art work by Jennifer Turpin that celebrates rainfall and recirculates the captured water for evaporative cooling during the summer months.

Our project builds on the legacy of the historically significant 1883 Blackfriars School precinct, weaving in elements of the past between its new cascading glass and sculptural brickwork.
