Located at the edge of the City of Sydney’s Oxford Street Cultural Precinct, 256 Crown Street involves a two-storey contemporary addition to the existing three-storey building, contributory to the Oxford Street Heritage Conservation Zone. Soho House is designed in form to maximise the building’s opportunities within the site’s envelope whilst maintaining solar access and views to the neighbours. A new form emerges from the existing historic painted brick building; in metal cladding articulated with deep windows, reminiscent of curtain openings, partially revealing the building’s exotic contents.
