Northern Expressway
TZG were commissioned to undertake the Reference Design for this major state infrastructure by TCL, and worked with the DPTI engineering and urban design team to refine the design of the nine bridges and approach roads as well as the freeway corridor.
Snake in the Grass, (laser cut corten steel ‘snake skin’) and Reverse Perspective Mounds (‘scale’ shaped earthworks) were the focus of the art component by Australian artist Robert Owen. These works integrate local memory of the native red belly black snake into the landscaped forms.
Major gateway statements were briefed at the southern and northern ends, to signal the approach to the city and the entry into the city zone. Following the tender process, TZG continued their involvement with the detailed design including earthworks and material selections.
