Architecture

TZG practices architecture that improves the quality, experience and longevity of the built environment. Across a very diverse range of small- and large-scale projects TZG offers the complete range of architectural services, underpinned by a drive to attain the greatest advantage for our clients. Starting with the client brief, we communicate with authorities, consultants, builders, artists, makers and specialists. We achieve timely development approvals with elegant solutions and develop rigorous documentation by pragmatically conferring with builders. We listen, invent, collaborate and review throughout every project.

Interiors

Our interiors department specialises in the nuances of different materials, the sculpting of internal space, the play of natural light and the relation of the interior to the exterior. We create functional places of vibrancy and texture that go beyond the client brief.
TZG sees architecture and interiors as corresponding parts with one informing the other. Our interior projects take cues from the architectural concepts: challenging, playful or harmonious, calm or energised.

Urban Design

TZG urban design projects create public spaces that knit the city together. Through fine grain urban interventions, buildings with significant exteriors and surrounding public spaces are designed to positively contribute to the city. We seek, restore and cultivate the story of Country in collaboration with First Nations Peoples. TZG reinvents urban areas and rehabilitates dilapidated precincts into high quality urban spaces that address density by incorporating visionary places and vital community resources to empower people.

Heritage+Adaptive Reuse

TZG’s heritage and adaptive reuse work is recognised for its integrity and skill in uniting the conservation of historic buildings with contemporary functions. TZG Heritage undertakes detailed research at the beginning of each project to gain an understanding of the layers of history and the levels of significance. By balancing the conservation of significant fabric with thoughtful new interventions, TZG seeks inventive ways to repurpose and revitalise historic buildings. Alongside in-house architectural services for our adaptive reuse projects, TZG Heritage also prepares heritage frameworks for complex historic sites, heritage impact statements and interpretation strategies.

Master Planning

TZG’s portfolio of masterplan projects is located on prominent and demanding sites across the country. They illustrate the integration of statutory planning and government policy with the investigation of architectural massing, traffic flows, pedestrian experiences and populations densities. TZG is sensitive to the significance of Country for First Nations Peoples and proactively looks for ways to foreground this story through connections, focal points and environmental protection. TZG is keenly interested in speculating on the potential for every site to foster inclusivity, vitality and productive energy.

Design Management

We have a thorough understanding of Australian regulatory frameworks, the building industry’s capabilities and limitations and strategy guidelines provided by relevant peak bodies. TZG’s design management methods confirm that our client’s targets are attainable. We are transparent in our advice, aim to exceed the ambitions of our clients and care about the responsible management of budget and program.

Design Technology

TZG uses cutting edge technology, tools and methodologies as a key strategy to improve design, build more efficiently and integrate advanced engineering. A fully BIM (Building Information Modelling) based office, TZG can deliver detailed coordinated models across all disciplines. We design down to the millimetre, and at every stage explore the design as a three-dimensional object through spatial software. We harness the power of BIM to streamline workflows, improve accuracy, minimise errors and enhance client engagement and understanding. With full integration of leading design technology, we deliver high-quality designs that meet our client’s expectations while optimising performance and functionality.

Research and Advocacy

TZG has an ingrained culture of learning, researching and teaching. We are continually exploring construction techniques, materials, precedents and many facets of the site in pursuit of the best possible design. Mirroring our passion for research is that of advocacy and education. Our Sustainability Action Plan and Reconciliation Action Plan are documents that have been produced with meaningful consultation. They are pragmatic plans that inform how we practice and our approach throughout the project. Our senior partners are Adjunct Professors at the Australian universities and TZG Directors enjoy teaching and lecturing responsibilities across many institutions.

TZG acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, on whose land we work and pay our respects to Elders past, present and future. We are committed to a just, equitable and reconciled Australia and support the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

Always was, always will be.
