Marrickville Traders
The project lies at the threshold between Marrickville’s industrial warehouses and the local community. It acts as a buffer to Marrickville’s industry for Marrickville Public School on Chapel Street and the residential side of Shephard Street, providing an exciting and dynamic hub for the community.
The design strategy includes the potential for tenants to expand or reduce their space when necessary. By creating flexibility through careful planning, the industrial building has been adapted to suit the indefinite nature of creative work.
The continuation of the industrial facade is key to grounding the new building in its context. The large metal fins fronting Shepherd Street are angled to provide views out to the street while shading the interiors from the western sun. On Chapel Street, the angles of the fins are more acute to maximise natural light and the view to the street.
