Located on the forecourt of Sydney’s Customs House, the 2011 Emergency Shelter Exhibition raised funds for the Oshika Peninsula of the Tōhoku region of Japan that had been affected by earthquakes. TZG’s prototype was based on using the minimal machinery necessary during construction, instead utilising prefabricated and modular systems.

The interlocking timber plank design allowed for a quick and clean construction process. A partially transparent membrane was stretched over the structure, giving the Shelter a distinct lightness.
