Leading on from the Government Architect’s framework to revitalise the southern end of Sydney’s CBD and unify Chippendale, Redfern and Surry Hills, TZG collaborated with FKA to prepare the Masterplan for the State Government to guide negotiations with developers. In addition, and in collaboration with Artefact, TZG Heritage prepared a Heritage Framework for the treatment of buildings to be conserved within the urban plan.

Complex rail requirements, including the new Metro and light rail, from 600,000 to 1,000,000 sqm of mixed-use area, had to be carefully integrated, all spanning the existing rail network and adding significant public amenity.

To arrive at a vibrant and liveable precinct, TZG/FKA had to engage extensively with all stakeholders and the community.

Numerous heritage buildings are creatively coordinated with proposed new development, to thread complexity, amenity and sophistication into this urban ‘knot’.

The overall vision embraces the next 50 years of lively usage for this renewed and upgraded part of the city.
